PRC steel building were asked to design and construct a new factory extension for our customer in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire due to the expansion of their business and not enough space in their current workshop.
The project involved removing two columns from the existing portal framed building and constructing a new steel portal framed building adjacent to the factory to create a new factory floor. Our customer was on a very short time scale due to having won a contract for the construction and supply of a 14m long food process machine. From appointment PRC steel buildings had 12 weeks to deliver the new factory area to enable the client to manufacture his machine and deliver to his customer with out incurring penalties.
Due to our in house design capabilities we quickly and efficiently design the Goal post and ties to enable us to alter the existing factories portal frame, and remove two columns creating the open plan floor space required. We then designed a new building to sit along side the existing factory to create the floor space required. The project involved coming up with a quick solution for the foundations in the form of a raft foundation and construction of the building on a tight site whilst the customer continued to operate.
Due to our design capabilities we quickly accessed the ground conditions and produced a raft foundation solution that could be constructed whilst the building frame was being designed and fabricated this enabled us to condense our program to meet with the customers needs.
We designed and modelled the new building in Tekla design software to ensure the scheme would work. 4 weeks after approval we delivered the steel work to site and commenced with the construction of the building within the required time frame.
